Zone conferences— a week of travel, learning, renewal, and cars!

Sunday we traveled to Vacaville so we could participate in Brother Isgrigg’s ‘setting apart’ (he was given a special blessing) as Vehicle assistant in the Vacaville Stake. He is an expert in cars. We value his help!

Monday— conference usually starts on Monday in Eureka. This time Eureka will be on Saturday. So we had our P-Day (preparation day) on Monday. We started deep cleaning our apartment before the move home.

Sisters Allen & Lee were at the Mission office when we stopped in; going through the car wash; Elder Kennan with Brother Isgrigg; Sisters Day & Smart in Vacaville—we went there to take Sister Smart her gas card.

Tuesday we traveled to Ukiah for zone Conference.

It went smoothly.

Ukiah Zone Conference: Elders McIntyre & Witt; Elder Searls’s departing testimony; a lovely lunch of pulled pork, Elders Chandler & Kennan, Sisters Campbell & Austin; Elder Swindler played a beautiful number on his cello.

Wednesday—Napa/Fairfield — as Elder Kennan said, “The fleet Gods must be mad at us!” It was a very jagged day! In a different area, a missionary companionship was rear ended, so inspections took longer than usual because phone calls had to be made about the crash. There were a lot of dings and scrapes on cars to consider. A few items were delivered to the cars that were there. Then by the time we finished with the cars and got into lunch, most of it was gone (no chili for the potatoes— but really, it was enough). We also had bikes to inspect which we did after lunch. Elder Lindemon explained what needed to be done to be sure the bikes were operating properly and Brother Isgrigg did it. With his mechanical expertise, he will be essential with taking care of the bikes! When we got to our hotel, they wouldn’t accept our corporate credit card, so we had to go elsewhere. (The hotel we found was right next door, so it was not a big deal.) All in all, just a jagged day.

Some of the bikes, Elders Lindemon & Kennan, Sister Quinn, Sisters Bailey & Chamberlain giving their departing testimonies, our beloved mission leaders walking into conference.

Birthdays! We celebrate birthdays in each zone— they choose a little gift from the birthday bucket and we sing to them.

Thursday we were in Woodland/Vacaville zones

Sister Quinn teaching us one way to deal with anxiety; Elders Hawkins & Chandler improvising on the piano; our grandson excelling at basketball; Sisters McBride, Pletsch, & Chamberlain giving their departing testimonies.

Friday we were at the Santa Rosa/SanRafael conference. Each conference is basically the same: there is a welcome, we sing Called to Serve; say our missionary purpose; Sister Quinn gives a mental health message; and we give a car safety message. Then we go out and inspect cars while more training is done—we always miss this part, but usually finish the cars by lunch. After lunch is a musical number, the testimonies of departing missionaries; and then President & Sister Quinn gives their council and challenges.

The missionaries come away renewed and ready to reach a little higher.

Standing to say the missionary purpose, Sister Quinn teaching us, Sisters Gabrielson & Baird & Elder Myers bearing their departing testimonies. We drove to Eureka for conference on Saturday.

Eureka zone Conference is usually on Monday. Due to scheduling conflicts, it was on Saturday this time. It was about a 4 hour drive and we wanted to get through the forests before dark, so we left right after the departing testimonies. This was our zone so we would’ve stayed till the end if we didn’t have to travel.

I will miss seeing this! We gave our departing testimonies at each conference.

This week flew by! Our ‘lasts’ at zone Conferences. Our lasts at traveling to these beautiful areas in our mission. Saying goodbye to CASRM is going to be difficult.
